Biohacking for Women: Demystifying 5 Common Myths!

If you have just started in the world of biohacking or are taking the first steps on your journey towards better health and well-being, you may have come across a series of myths that seem specific to women. After all, with so much information out there, it is difficult to know what really works and what is just an exaggeration. So, let's demystify 5 of these myths and see how biohacking can be adapted effectively and safely for us women.

Myth 1: Cold baths are only for men

Reality: We are different from men even in our response to cold baths! But cold water therapy (cryotherapy) - whether it's a cold shower, or a dip in icy water - can be extremely beneficial for us women as well. Cold baths help improve circulation and  imunity, reduce inflammation and muscle pain, increase energy, improve stress response and even increase mental clarity. The secret is to adjust the temperature and duration so that you feel comfortable and safe.

Always pay attention to the phase of the menstrual cycle you are in, because your react to cold differently in each phase. For example, based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, avoiding frequent immersion in cold water during the luteal fase (before menstruation) and during menstruation can support the heating of the uterus necessary for adequate blood flow and reduced menstrual cramps. A quick dive can do wonders in the other phases!

However, and like everything else, it is not without risks: for those who have heart problems, poor circulation, respiratory conditions such as asthma, those who take beta-blockers, have hormonal problems (such as PCOS) or are pregnant, they should be careful. If you are interested in trying a cold dip, take it easy and don't forget to check with your doctor if any of these situations apply to you.

Myth 2: Intermittent fasting is not safe for women

Reality: Intermittent fasting can be practiced by women, yes, but it is important to listen to our body. We have unique hormonal needs, and adapting the time and duration of fasting can make all the difference. Try smaller fasting windows and see how your body reacts. The key is to find a balance that works for you. Remember, there is no magic formula that applies to all; what works for a friend may not be ideal for you.

Myth 3: Biohacking supplements are universal

Reality: Every woman is unique, and this includes our nutritional needs. Supplements should be chosen based on individual exams and objectives. For example, some may need more iron, while others may benefit from omega-3 for hormonal health. Know your body and adapt your supplementation to your reality. Don’t follow the latest supplement trend just because everyone is doing it; what matters is what your body really needs.

Myth 4: Women should not lift heavy weights

Reality: Whoever said this, does not know the benefits of strength training! Lifting weights not only helps to build strong muscles, but also improves bone density and accelerates metabolism. What's more, it's an excellent way to feel powerful and confident. Don't be afraid to go heavy at the gym! Your bikini (or lingerie) will thank you for it and so will your your self-esteem . 😉

Myth 5: Kegel exercises are only for those who have children

Reality: Kegel exercises help with incontinence and can contribute to better orgasms, regardless of maternity plans. They strengthen the pelvic floor, benefiting all women. Whether you are a mother or not, taking care of this part of the body brings benefits that go far beyond childbirth. It's a real "hack" for female intimate health, and, truth be told, who doesn't want better intimate health and a more satisfying sex life?

Demystifying these myths is a big step towards embracing female biohacking safely and effectively.
